WASHINGTON (Reuters) -A 25-year-old Alabama man was arrested on Thursday for hacking the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's X account this year as part of an alleged conspiracy to manipulate bitcoin prices, U.S. prosecutors said.

The post sent by hackers on the SEC's X account made the false claim the regulator had allowed Bitcoin to be part of mainstream investment funds. This caused the price of the cryptocurrency to rise by about $1,000 (£770), according to the US Department of Justice, before falling by $2,000 when it was found to be untrue.
