India's foreign ministry said on Thursday that despite requests from New Delhi, Canada had not taken any action against members of a gang that Canadian police have accused of being linked to Indian government agents in the 2023 murder of a Sikh separatist leader,

India and Canada have expelled each other's top diplomats over the 2023 assassination of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and allegations of other crimes.

A long-simmering diplomatic spat between India and Canada escalated dramatically on Monday as Ottawa expelled six Indian officials, including the country’s top diplomat, implicating them in the killing of a Sikh separatist who was fatally shot outside a temple in British Columbia last year.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday that India had requested Canada to arrest members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang but it didn't act on New Delhi's “core concerns”. The MEA also rejected "false imputations against our diplomats" made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
